Lucifer developer Tom Kapinos is returning to Fox with Let’s Spend the Night Together, a dramedy that has a put pilot commitment from the network.
The project’s first season, should it go to series, will unfold over the course of a single night at a wedding. As viewers get to know the wedding party, they’ll learn more about the present and past of each character and that not everything is as it seems.
The effort from 20th Century Fox TV and Endemol Shine North America is inspired by the series Quadras, produced by Endemol Shine France.
Kapinos, who also created Californication and co-created White Famous for Showtime, is writing the pilot and will executive produce. Empire director and EP Sanaa Hamri (who’s also helmed episodes of Shameless and Glee) will direct the pilot and also executive produce along with Sharon Levy, Francois-Xavier Demaison and Nicolas Coppermann.
Kapinos developed and wrote the pilot episode of Lucifer, based on the DC-Vertigo comic, and was credited as an exec producer throughout the show’s run. He stepped back after the pilot, however, with Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich serving as showrunners. Fox canceled the series in May, but Netflix later stepped in to revive it for a fourth season.
