Lifetime is keeping its feet firmly on the dance floor.
The cable network has renewed docu-series Dance Moms for a second season, ordering 13 episodes of the reality show ahead of its Oct. 5 season finale.
Featuring dance instructor Abby Lee Miller, her students and their mothers, the series has been a ratings performer for Lifetime, averaging 1.6 million total viewers (up 62 percent since its premiere), according to Nielsen. The series has posted gains in several key metrics, including the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo (up 68 percent) and adults 25-54 (up 34 percent).
“From Abby Lee Miller’s intensity and her students’ incredible performances to their devoted moms and its high drama, Dance Moms has become one of the most compelling shows on television,” Lifetime Networks president and GM Nancy Dubuc said in a statement announcing the news Tuesday. “It has struck a clear chord, hooking in die-hard fans clamoring for more, and we’re excited to bring Dance Moms back for them.”
The series is produced by Collins Avenue, with Jeff Collins, Bryan Stinson and John R. Corella executive producing alongside Rob Sharenow, Gena McCarthy and Kimberly Chessler of Lifetime TV. APA packaged the deal.
