ITV Studios Global Entertainment’s hit reality-cooking format Hell’s Kitchen has sold to Indonesia, the first deal for the show in Asia.
Indonesian broadcaster SCTV has commissioned 25 60-minute episodes of the show to air this winter. It will be hosted by local cooking personality Juna Rorimpandey, better known as Chef Juna.
The format features a high-profile chef attempting to instill his or her love of food into a group of competing amateur chefs. With reputations on the line, the perfectionist chef assesses the amateurs’ performances and drives them to achieve their best, eliminating them one by one until a champion remains.
Hyeonza Hong, ITV’s senior vp sales in Asia, said in a statement: “Hell’s Kitchen has proven hugely successful with audiences around the world. We are delighted to see the format arrive in Asia and expect it to draw the attention of both local viewers and other broadcasters across the region.”
Hell’s Kitchen has been produced in 17 territories worldwide, including Germany, Italy and Russia. ITV Studios America’s Hell’s Kitchen USA is now in its 12th season on FOX.
In another recent ITV deal in Southeast Asia, dance competition show Baby Ballroom was commissioned by HTV7 in Vietnam. Titled Vu Dieu Tuoi Xanh, a season of seven 60-minute episodes will premiere later this month.
In Baby Ballroom, 14 pairs of child dancers battle it out on the dance floor, performing everything from the mambo and waltz to the fox-trot and quickstep. The contestants listen to the comments of the judges and compete to become the Baby Ballroom champion.
Elsie Choi, senior sales executive for India, Southeast Asia and Pan-Asia for ITV Studios Global Entertainment, negotiated the two deals.
