Longest-Serving ‘Late Show’ Head Writers Going to SiriusXM

The longest-serving head writers for The Late Show With David Letterman, Eric and Justin Stangel, are going to SiriusXM.

The Stangels are joining as creative contributors to the Opie and Jim Norton morning radio show on the Opie Radio channel and will also contribute to other SiriusXM shows.

The brothers served as Late Show head writers starting in 1998, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for their work. The duo, who have also attracted a following on Twitter for their clever quips about current events, are the longest-tenured head writers in Late Show history. They served as executive producers for the CBS late-night program from starting in 2009. They left The Late Show in 2014.

“This is going to be a lot of fun. It’s already a great channel, and we are excited to help bring in new comedic voices to make it, and other shows, even better,” Eric Stangel said in a statement.

Justin Stangel added, “Plus, it’s radio, so we don’t even need to wear pants.”

SiriusXM president and chief content officer Scott Greenstein called the Stangels “among the best comedic minds working today.”

Opie and Jim Norton (formerly Opie and Anthony before the firing of longtime co-host Anthony Cumia last summer) airs Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET on SiriusXM.
