COLOGNE, Germany – Jessica Paré, the actress who plays Megan Draper in Mad Men, will attend the Asian Pacific Pay TV Operators Summit in Bali, Indonesia this week (April 24-26) on behalf of AMC/Sundance Channel Global, who are beefing up their presence in the region.
Paré, who has become a small screen and online phenomenon since her sexy performance of Zou Bisou Bisou on Mad Man‘s fifth season premiere, will take part in a presentation by AMC/Sundance Channel Global President Bruce Tuchman on the value of original iconic programming.
Ahead of the summit, the Sundance Channel beefed up its international programming slate, picking up rights across Asia and in selected European territories for season two of AMC’s post-civil war drama Hell on Wheels and premiere window rights fro Asia to BBC’s 1950s newsroom series The Hour starring Dominic West (The Wire).
The Hell on Wheels deal with Entertainment One gives Sundance first-window rights to the series across Asia. Through a separate agreement with series co-producer Endemol, Sundance Channel has picked up second-window broadcast rights in Spain and premiere rights in Portugal and Eastern and Central Europe. Sundance took Asian rights through 2013 for The Hour thanks to a deal with Shine International.
On the feature front, Sundance picked up a film package from Miramax that includes titles such as Good Will Hunting, Chocolat and Run Lola Run, for Spain and Asia in 2012 and 2013.
Sundance Channel has also expanded its carriage in Asia, signing new distribution deals in the region, with the service set to launch on SK broadband in South Korea and sister network WE tv, a woman’s lifestyle channel, being picked up by Taiwanese IPTV platform Vee Time. WE tv also buffed up its international offerings with a series of new program acquisitions, including the rights across Asia and Europe for the fourth season of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover.
“It is thrilling to expand our carriage in South Korea and Taiwan — high growth markets critical not only to the value of our business in Asia but throughout the globe as well,” said Bruce Tuchman in a statement.
