Marc Webb, the filmmaker behind the Andrew Garfield-starring Spider-Man movies as well as 500 Days of Summer, is directing the first two episodes of Just Beyond, Disney+’s horror-comedy based on the R.L. Stine graphic novel series from Boom! Studios.
Seth Grahame-Smith is writing and showrunning the eight-episode horror comedy which is now in production on its first installment in Atlanta.
Much like Stine’s classic Goosebumps book series, Beyond is also an anthology of spooky and chilling stories made for the middle-grade set.
Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are executive producing via their KatzSmith Productions along with the banner’s Aaron Schmidt. Stephen Christy and Ross Richie of Boom! are also executive producers. Stine is acting as co-EP.
Webb was a music video director for such acts as My Chemical Romance before making his feature debut with the crowd-pleasing offbeat romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer, the 2009 film that starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. He then jumped into the pool of Hollywood studio tentpoles, making Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2. The movies, starring Andrew Garfield, grossed a combined $1.4 billion worldwide.
He directed 2017’s drama Gifted, with Chris Evans and Octavia Spencer, and has spent the last several years in the world of TV, working as a director and exec producer on a wide range of drama such as as The Code, The Society and Why Women Kill.
Webb is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Lichter Grossman.
