Nine months after optioning The Gilded Razor for TV, the project has found a showrunner.
Friends and Grace and Frankie’s Marta Kauffman has signed on to develop the Sam Lansky memoir via her Okay Goodnight Productions banner alongside Robbie Tollin and Hannah K.S. Canter. The TV take will be titled The Walk Out of Ruin, with the hourlong scripted drama poised to revolve around a group of troubled teens who are forcibly removed from their homes and taken to a wilderness therapy program for at-risk youth.
Former OWN co-president Sheri Salata and her Story partner Nancy Hala teamed with Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent to adapt the property for television. The quartet have now launched a production company, Orange Dragon, to produce The Walk Out of Ruin.
“Marta Kauffman is a legend in the business, and we are honored to partner with her. We are thrilled by her vision for The Walk Out of Ruin,” Berkus said.
Additionally, Orange Dragon has now put its second scripted project in development — Quantum Love, based on the life of Dr. Laura Berman, a New York Times best-selling author, love coach and sex therapist.
“Dr. Berman’s real-life story is rich with the kind of jaw-dropping reality that makes for a superb scripted series,” said Salata, who will exec produce. “Quantum Love is a 30-minute scripted show with comedic and dramatic storylines that get to the root of what matters so much in life: love, happiness and sex. What do we like and why do we like it? Why do we attract certain people into our lives? How can we become the divining rod to call in true love? How do we get satisfaction, for real? What is going on in small-town American bedrooms? And because these stories are based on the life experiences of renowned sex therapist Dr. Laura Berman, we know they’re real.”
Orange Dragon is in addition to Salata and Hala’s Story banner.
Kauffman is repped by WME.
