Universal Television is keeping Alan Yang in the family.
The Master of None co-creator/showrunner has signed a two-year overall deal with the studio behind Netflix’s Aziz Ansari starrer, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Under the pact, Yang will create and develop new projects for the studio. The deal keeps Yang in the UTV family following his run on Parks and Recreation, where he co-wrote 16 episodes, directed multiple installments and played Chang, Mouse Rat’s bass player. While on staff for the Amy Poehler comedy’s entire run, Yang rose to executive producer.

“Alan is a talent we’ve treasured at the studio for many years and we couldn’t be more thrilled to keep him in the family,” NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said Friday in a statement. “Clearly, his work on Parks and Recreation and Master of None puts him in the upper class of today’s writer-producers.”
Yang co-created Master of None with Ansari. The comedy is based on both of their lives, with Kelvin Yu’s character, Brian, based on Yang. The series has won a Peabody Award, AFI Award and Critics’ Choice Award. It also was named Rotten Tomatoes’ best-reviewed comedy of 2015.
“I’m a big fan of the work Alan has been doing on the wonderful Master of None and I’m very happy that he will remain within the Universal Television family,” said new UTV president Pearlena Igbokwe.
