Matt Bomer Joins DC Universe’s ‘Doom Patrol’

Matt Bomer is heading to DC Universe.

The White Collar and Normal Heart grad has joined the cast of the SVOD service’s Titans spinoff series Doom Patrol.  

Due in 2019, the live-action drama is based on the DC Comics title of the same name. The project revolves around superhero outcasts Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man, Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby) and Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), who are led by modern-day mad scientists Dr. Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton) and Cyborg (Joivan Wade). Alan Tudyk stars as Mr. Nobody.

Bomer will take on the role of Negative Man, appearing as alter ego Larry Trainor in flashback scenes and providing the character’s voiceover. Matthew Zuk will take on the physical performance of the character on set in costume. He replaces Riley Shanahan, who was previously poised to provide the physical performance of Fraser’s Robotman.

Jeremy Carver (Supernatural) is serving as showrunner on the 13-episode drama and will executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns and Sarah Schechter.

Bomer’s casting was announced Wednesday by Fraser at the Titans world premiere at New York Comic-Con. The actor surprised fans with a video greeting from the show’s Atlanta set.

DC Universe launched Sept. 15. The subscription service provides a mix of scripted originals as well as access to DC-themed TV, film and comic books. A premiere date for Doom Patrol has not been determined.

For his part, Bomer’s credits include Magic Mike and its sequel, Magic Mike XXL; American Crime Story; The Last Tycoon; American Horror Story; and The New Normal. He is repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson.
