The Mindy Project‘s medical practice is staffing up.
The upcoming Fox comedy has added stars from MadTV, Gossip Girl and Glee to its ranks, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Office‘s Mindy Kaling stars as a young, new doctor who’s learning to navigate her personal and professional life and the challenges that come between her quest to find Mr. Right — or Mr. Right Now and has added two series regulars and one recurring role, joining co-stars Chris Messina and Ed Weeks.
STORY: Fall TV Pilot Preview: Fox’s ‘The Mindy Project’
Glee‘s Stephen Tobolowsky will play Dr. Marc Schulman, the avuncular head of the series’ medical practice Shulman and Associates, who enjoys waxing philosophical — especially if his advice gets the younger staff (looking at you, Mindy!) to leave him alone. Tobolowsky recurred on Glee as Sandy Ryerson, the former head of New Directions before Matthew Morrison’s Mr. Schuester took over.
Tobolowsky (Innovative Artists, Framework Entertainment) replaces The West Wing‘s Richard Schiff, who guest starred in the pilot as an unnamed doctor who oversaw the practice.
Joining Tobolowsky as a series regular will be Gossip Girl‘s Amanda Setton, who will play Shauna Dicanio, a tenacious, Jersey-born office manager at Schulman and Associates who collects unpaid patient bills as if she were a bounty hunter. The CornerStone Talent Agency-repped actress played Penelope Shafai on more than 30 episodes of the CW series from 2008-12.

Lastly, MadTV‘s Ike Barinholtz (who also happens to be an executive story editor on Mindy) will recur as Morgan Tookers, a new male nurse at the practice, who was hired despite a lack of formal qualifications — and tact, personal hygiene.
Morgan is a rehabilitated ex-con living in Queens with his best friend, who also happens to be his 80-year-old grandmother and has his own unique philosophies on life with his heart is always several sizes larger than his brain. He’s fiercely loyal to his co-workers, and he makes it his personal mission to help them find love and happiness. Barinholtz is repped by UTA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
Mindy Project, co-starring Anna Camp and Zoe Jarman, premieres Sept. 25 on Fox.
