Sony’s AXN Network is teaming with Pinewood Television on a slate of six TV projects, with an eye to producing three original series over the next three years.
The development pact, unveiled at MIPCOM, will be jointly financed by Sony Pictures Television Networks and Pinewood Television. Eventual series will air on Sony’s AXN networks in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe, with a focus on action, crime and mystery series.
Marie Jacobson, executive vp programming and production at Sony Pictures Television Networks, said Pinewood Television is well-placed to help the studio expand its original series development. “We are thrilled to join hands with the team at Pinewood and look forward to developing projects that play both in the UK and on our channels around the world,” Jacobson said in a statement.
The pact is being spearheaded at Pinewood by creative director Helen Gregory, the British producer behind a string of U.K. series since the mid 1990s and co-creator and co-executive producer of Shonda Rhimes‘ and ABC’s The Catch. She also has drama and comedy credits with U.K. networks like BBC, Sky, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Pinewood Television is a joint venture with StoryFirst PST, owned by U.S. media entrepreneur Peter Gerwe, the former head of Russia’s CTC Media, and focuses on creating, developing and financing TV dramas for the international market.
The development deal was brokered by Jacobson for Sony Pictures Television Networks, and Gerwe, a director at Pinewood Television.
