LONDON – Former soccer star and media darling David Beckham is front and center of a one-off documentary about his expedition into the Brazilian rainforest with three friends.
The 90-minute documentary is made by XIX Entertainment, BBC Worldwide and the BBC for BBC One, the U.K. public broadcaster’s main channel.
The global star recently traveled more than 5,000 miles from London to South America to experience life in the Amazon rainforest. Over the last two weeks he’s cooked, camped and fished during his journey through the tropical Amazon rainforest as he and his three friends discover the “real Brazil” in the doc directed by Anthony Mandler.
BBC Worldwide managing director content Helen Jackson said: “This is an unforgettable documentary, set in the heart of the dense Amazon rainforest following David Beckham. Through his eyes, audiences will experience life in the jungle, something so distant from David’s life on and off the pitch and in the glare of the world’s media.”
The Beckham documentary will air on BBC One in the U.K. in June, with BBC Worldwide selling international distribution rights at the upcoming MIPTV.
Commissioned by Sam Bickley, the documentary film is mounted by U.K. production banner XIX Production for the BBC and BBC Worldwide.
