This smart, very funny take on the superhero genre, has a group of British juvenile delinquents who, while doing court-ordered community service, are struck by lightning and begin to develop paranormal abilities. Politically-incorrect hijinks ensue.

Misfits is officially getting the reboot treatment.
Freeform has given a pilot order to a remake of the British sci-fi series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Misfits centers on a group of young offenders in a community service program who develop supernatural powers after being hit by a mysterious electrical storm. Diane Ruggiero-Wright (iZombie, Veronica Mars) wrote the adaptation and will serve as showrunner, executive producing with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, The O.C.), as well as with original series creator Howard Overman and original series producer Murray Ferguson of Clerkenwell Films. Victoria Mahoney (Grey’s Anatomy) will direct the pilot.
The project, first put into development in April 2016 at the cabler, hails from ABC Signature Studios in association with Schwartz and Savage’s Fake Empire banner.
Additionally, Freeform has cast Ashleigh Lathrop (Sirens), Tre Hall (Ten Days in the Valley), Allie MacDonald (Orphan Black) and Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie), the son of Bobby Cannavale, in lead roles.

Lathrop will play Alicia, a spoiled, vapid, middle-class party girl who seems to have three main goals in life: Have fun, look hot and get guys.
Hall will portray Curtis, a talented and cocky football player with a promising career ahead of him who is used to everything going his way.
MacDonald is set as the tough and trashy Kelly, who is street smart with a hair-trigger temper and a penchant for beating the crap out of people.
Cannavale rounds out the group as Nathan, a con artist and a thief with a heavily inflated sense of his own attractiveness, intelligence and potential.
Misfits ran for five seasons from 2009-2013, and featured several now-famous castmembers including Game of Thrones alums Iwan Rheon and Michelle Fairley, as well as Oscar-nominated actress and Preacher star Ruth Negga. The U.K. series is currently available to stream in the U.S. on Hulu.
Misfits was one of a slate of original dramas put into development following the shift from the family-friendly ABC Family programming to Freeform’s focus on “Becomers,” also known as 14- to 34-year-olds who are experiencing their first jobs and relationships. The cable channel’s other upcoming series include magazine drama The Bold Type, Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger and mermaid drama Siren.
