The annual Miss America pageant may be less than a week away, but the century-old organization is already turning an eye to next year. The Miss America Organization will partner with Dick Clark Productions for the 2015 installment.
DCP will not be producing the show — that job still belongs to Anthony Eaton‘s Tall Pony Productions — instead collaborating on all creative, marketing, sponsorship, ticketing and distribution elements of next year’s iteration. In addition to a healthy roster of marquee live events on its production docket (The Golden Globes), DCP also has pageant experience in producing both Miss USA and Miss Universe for Donald Trump.
“Dick Clark Productions is the leader in live event television and we look forward to growing the show’s legacy and elevating the Miss America Competition for current and new generations of television viewers,” said Miss America Organization chairman and ceo Sam Haskell. “We will continue to build on our commitment to connect and empower women through innovative television opportunities developed through our new partnership with DCP.”
Despite competitions of its nature losing some of the sheen of decades past, when future stars such as Vanessa Williams took the Miss America crown, Miss America continues to draw strong interest and ratings. Last year’s show averaged a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49 and nearly 9 million viewers for ABC.
“Since its first television broadcast in 1954, the Miss America competition has continually captivated the country as a true television event for 60 years,” said DCP president Mike Mahan, President. “We plan to help build on the tremendous show legacy by marrying our live event expertise with Miss America’s mission brand goals and competition creative, while leveraging new promotional, sponsorship and distribution opportunities to take the show to even greater heights.”
The partnership is for the 2015 outing, with this year’s live telecast set for Sunday Sept. 14 on ABC.
“I’ve worked with Sam and the Miss America Organization for the past 4 years during my tenure at ABC and it is an honor to work with them again in my new role at DCP where we can build on one of the most successful live television events of all-time,” added DCP evp, programming and development, Mark Bracco.
Dick Clark Productions and The Hollywood Reporter are both owned by affiliates of Guggenheim Partners.
