After surging last week for the debut of “The Vampire Diaries,” The CW came back down to earth Monday night with returning dramas “One Tree Hill” and “Gossip Girl.”
“One Tree” (2.6 million viewers, 1.2 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) was down 29% from its debut last year. “Gossip” (2.5 million, 1.3) performed better, matching its women 18-34 target demo, though it fell 24% among the adult demo. (The CW says its shows performed well “despite moving time periods,” as if such moves are the work of pesky scheduling gremlins rather than executed by the networks themselves in the hope of increasing ratings).
UPDATE: “Gossip” climbed a bit in the nationals, now at a 1.4 in the adult demo and actually up a bit compared to last year among women 18-34.
