More than 20,000 people showed up to audition for Simon Cowell‘s X Factor in Newark, New Jersey, Thursday morning, onlookers tell The Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s an incredible atmosphere here,” a source source tells THR “New Jersey has totally rocked it. We have never seen anything like it. It’s awesome”
NorthJersey.com reports that aspiring singers began lining up at midnight ahead of the auditions, held at the Prudential Center, for a chance to win a spot on the Fox show — and the $5 million prize. By 7 a.m., the line stretched down two streets and around the block.
“We see a lot of swagger out there,” executive producer Rob Wade told the site. “We see a lot of New Jersey out there.” Mayor Cory Booker also Tweeted about the auditions.
Auditions were held in Los Angeles on March 27 and Miami on April 7. The next stop is Seattle on April 20, Chicago on April 27 and Dallas on May 26.
