Rob Dyrdek‘s Ridiculousness is going viral for MTV.
The young-skewing cable network has renewed the viral video series for a second season. The series has become one of the network’s breakout hits, averaging a 1.9 million viewers per week and a 1.8 rating in the network’s key 12-34 demographic, ranking as MTV’s second-highest rated show among the men 12-34 demo behind Jersey Shore.
“Our audience loves Ridiculousness, and we’re thrilled that Rob will be bringing another hilarious season of the show to our viewers,” MTV head of programming David Janollari said Monday. “He is a powerhouse talent with a long history with MTV, and his brand of comedy, from Ridiculousness to Fantasy Factory, is a perfect fit on our network.”
Since its premiere, the series in which Dyrdek riffs on funny amateur viral videos has ranked second across all television in the 12-34 demo in its Monday at 10 p.m. slot, behind only ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
The pickup continues MTV’s push into scripted fare. The network also picked up freshman series Awkward and Teen Wolf for additional seasons earlier this year.
No decision has been made on the fate of scripted horror comedy Death Valley, which premieres in its new 11 p.m. slot tonight. Dyrdek is repped by ICM.
