Kerry Bishe is not wasting any time booking her follow-up to Halt and Catch Fire.
The actress has joined the season three cast of Netflix drug cartel drama Narcos, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Bishe will play Christina, an American woman whose Colombian husband is involved in the cartel and who turns to the U.S. Embassy for help to get away from him.
The Argo actress becomes the third new series regular to join the series as it shifts to focus on a new story in the wake of Pablo Escobar’s death. Michael Stahl-David (Show Me a Hero) and New Zealand actor Matt Whelan also boarded Narcos as series regulars for season three. Stahl-David will play Chris Feistl, a young American DEA agent who sought out assignment to Colombia as the drug trade shifts to the Cali Cartel’s takeover. Whelan will play his partner, Daniel Van Ness.
The trio join returning star Pedro Pascal in season three, while the fate of Boyd Holbrook’s Steve Murphy remains up in the air.
The second season signaled a shift in the series when it delivered the death of Medellin cartel kingpin Escobar, bringing about the exit of series star Wagner Moura. The finale set up a likely return for Pena as it shifted its aim to hunting the new cartel in charge, Cali, but it left the return of his partner, Murphy (played by Holbrook) up in the air.
“I view it as a schematic sequel,” showrunner Eric Newman told THR about reinventing the show for seasons three and four. “A guy like Escobar was going to be replaced by, in some ways, a more pervasive and more insidious organization like Cali, that had a corruptive influence that went way beyond the outlaw.”
Newman also said he planned to add a fair amount of new faces to the cast, highlighting the relationship between Escobar’s driver, Limon (Leynar Gomez), and single mother Maritza (Martina García) from season two as an example of something he’d like to explore more of in season three.
“We like telling the story of some of the unknowns in the drug war, the people who were touched by it,” he said. “The Limon-Maritza story really resonated with people and I’m proud of that. It’s a multiple narrative so there will be a number of new stories that hopefully will be captivating.”
Bishe’s credits include Grand Piano and Scrubs. She’s repped by WME.
The fourth and final season of 1980s-set computer drama Halt and Catch Fire will air in 2017, giving the actress two series regular roles in the same calendar year.
