Watch Nathan Lane Sing a Hilarious Tribute to David Letterman Called “Dead Inside” (Video)

Nathan Lane sang a hilarious yet touching musical tribute to David Letterman on Tuesday night.

“I just want to thank you for all your kindness and generosity over the years,” the actor told the departing Late Show host. “I feel like I’ve always been able to tell you everything — you’re my Oprah! Answer me one question: Am I in the will?”

Accompanied by Marc Shaiman, who wrote the song with Scott Wittman, Lane sang about how they’re both “dead inside” and that the host is leaving because his “brain is fried” — complete with punchlines about ISIS and when Letterman had shingles.

For example, “Most kids cried but I just cheered when Bambi’s mother died, my mother wished that she had had her tubes tied, that’s why I’m dead inside. When the world all got Ebola, I just went and had a cola. Come on let’s face it, my heart is a brick, because when I saw The Notebook, I laughed myself sick.”

And though he should be more sad about the longtime host leaving the Late Show, he sang, “I try to act the way a human should feel, but just like Brian Williams, baby, nothing’s real.”
