Kate Walsh O’Beirne, who was the National Review’s Washington editor and made frequent appearances on CNN and Meet the Press has died. She passed Sunday at noon, according to The National Review.
O’Beirne joined The National Review in 1995 and spent 11 years as Washington editor before becoming president of the National Review Institute for six years. She previously worked in Senator Jim Buckley’s office, the Reagan administration as as deputy assistant secretary for legislation at the Department of Health and Human Services, and at the Heritage Foundation.
Her Bread and Circuses column was what the National Review describes as “deep interest in conservative policy, psychological insight, and common sense.” As a pundit she appeared weekly for 10 years on CNN’s talk show Capital Gang as well as on NBC’s Meet the Press.
She worked for the New York Senate and received her JD degree from St. John’s University in New York.
She is also the author of Women Who Make the World Worse and How Their Radical Feminist Assault Is Ruining our Schools, Families, Military and Sports, which was published in 2005.
According to The National Review, O’Beirne was known to have a longtime smoking habit that caught up with her. CNN reports she died of cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, sons Phil and John, and sisters Mary Ann, Virginia, and Rosemary.
Kellyanne Conway, Jake Tapper and Jeb Bush were among those who expressed their sympathies on social media.
