NBC has blacked out live streaming of the Golden Globes online.
The broadcaster, which began airing the annual television and film awards show on Sunday night, is not allowing online viewers to see the show.
Cable subscribers often are allowed to stream programming live online if they sign into the service using their TV provider, but NBC has blocked the Globes from streaming. Live TV services SlingTV and DirecTV Now also typically offer NBC live streaming, but currently are not carrying the Globes. SlingTV has a message indicating that the Globes are not available for live streaming.
A representative from NBCUniversal did not immediately respond to a request for comment about why the broadcaster had decided to black out the show online.
NBC did not live stream last year’s Globes, hosted by Ricky Gervais, either. But several other broadcasters have begun live streaming their shows. ABC made the Emmys available to cable subscribers via its website and connected TV app, and CBS streams the Grammys online via its CBS All Access app and, for cable subscribers, via its website.
The red carpet was streaming online and on Twitter ahead of the Golden Globes broadcast. The show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, began broadcasting on NBC at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
