Donald Trump might not be doing any firing or hiring anytime soon.
In the wake of his announcement to run for president, NBC said it plans to “re-evaluate” his role as host of Celebrity Apprentice going forward.
“We will re-evaluate Trump’s role as host of Celebrity Apprentice should it become necessary, as we are committed to this franchise,” the network said in a statement.
Because the network is required to give equal screen time to all presidential candidates, there are currently no plans for Trump to appear on camera on the new season, which has yet to start production. Plans for a start date rely on Trump’s status as a presidential candidate. The reality competition was picked up for an eighth season in February.
Trump formally announced his run for president Tuesday morning from Trump Tower New York.
In addition to his role on Celebrity Apprentice, Trump’s weekly segment on Fox & Friends is now over effective immediately. However, his relationship with Fox News continues. Trump gave his first interview following his announcement to Bill O’Reilly. The interview will air Tuesday on The O’Reilly Factor.
Trump previously considered a run for the White House in 2011. NBC did not shelve Celebrity Apprentice when he began discussing his plans to run, but ultimately, Trump did not throw his hat in the ring for the 2012 election.
Trump has hosted all seven seasons of Celebrity Apprentice as well as all seven seasons of The Apprentice. It’s unclear what this means for Trump’s children, Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, who have served as advisors on the show for several years.
