NBC is getting into the Ken Sanzel business.
The network has made script commitments for two dramas, Gen Mishima and Hood, from the Numb3rs producer. They are both set up at Universal Television, where Sanzel inked a two-year overall deal earlier this year.
Gen Mishima, which is based on a Chilean series, centers on a journalist and an FBI agent who investigate an underground culture of brilliant kids who were part of an experimental school training the next generation of leaders which burned down years ago. Segio Aguero (Y Tu Mama Tambien), who acquired the U.S. rights to the format in 2010 from Parox S.A. and TV Chile, will serve as an executive producer on the U.S. iteration, with Sanzel on board to write and executive produce.

For its part, Hood is being billed as a modern-day Robin Hood. In this case, Robin Hood is an Iraq War veteran-turned-outlaw in an Upstate N.Y. county besieged by rapacious bankers and a corrupt, privatized police department. Sanzel is on board to write and executive produce.
Sanzel broke through in the late 1990s with his first pilot, Fox’s Lawless. His more recent small-screen projects include Numb3rs and NYC 22 at CBS, where he previously had an overall deal with sibling CBS TV Studios.
