NBC is looking for a piece of the magic.
The Peacock has ordered two specials starring America’s Got Talent season nine winner Mat Franco, becoming the latest network to embrace magic.
The primetime specials — Mat Franco’s Got Magic — will follow him as he travels from his home in Rhode Island to Las Vegas and his stops on the way to perform street magic and wow celebrities on his way to a headlining act at the LINQ Hotel & Casino.
“Mat displayed remarkable skill in winning the most recent season of America’s Got Talent, and we’re thrilled that these specials will document his new journey opening a show in Las Vegas,” said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC.

The specials, which hail from FremantleMedia North America and are exec produced by the company’s exec vp alternative Toby Gorman, come after Franco became the first magician to win the summer reality competition series. The specials also hail from Syco Entertainment and will be exec produced by Thom Beers and Sean Hancock. Airdates for both specials have not yet been announced, season 10 of AGT will bow May 26.
The Franco specials come as magic continues to be a popular genre both on broadcast and cable. The CW revived Masters of Illusion last year and renewed the series for a second season on the network following its run on My Network TV and has Penn Jillette and Teller’s Penn & Teller: Fool Us also returning for a sophomore run.
