NBC is ready to sell the year’s largest TV viewership on its mid-season lineup — and is equipped with a gladiator ring, fire hoses and a slew of explosives to do so.
For its 30-second spot for The Blacklist, airing just after the game on Sunday night before its new 9 p.m. Thursday time slot on Feb. 5, James Spader returns as the always cool Red Reddington amidst a street-long orchestra of explosions. “I love it when everything just falls into place,” he reflects, as “I’ve Gotta Be Me” plays in the background.
The Voice reserves a 60-second slot to salute Christina Aguilera‘s return to her spinning chair. Ahead of the singing series’ Feb. 23 premiere, she appears in a post-apocalyptic gladiator ring with fellow coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams, as well as host Carson Daly.
Undateable touts its sophomore season (premiering March 17 at 9 p.m.) with a 30-second spot that pokes fun at another NBC show: Chicago Fire. Chris D’Elia, Brent Morin, Ron Funches, David Fynn and Rick Glassman attempt to steam sexiness despite struggling with smoke and firefighters’ gear, before getting hosed down by Bianca Kajlich and Bridgit Mendler.
The network introduces its conspiracy drama Odyssey (premiering April 5 at 10 p.m.) with a 15-second ad that’s framed as a video message from Sgt. Odelle Ballard, played by Anna Friel. “They hunted, tried to kill me; it’s all because of this, this is proof,” she tells the camera while holding up a flash drive. “Contrary to what you may have heard, I am very much alive.”
