It doesn’t even matter that the two shows won’t be airing at the same time. The fight for reality singing competition supremacy is on. And, there’s no mistaking why NBC released its first trailer for Season 2 of The Voice on the same day Fox’s The X Factor airs.

The new promo showcases what the show believes to be its biggest weapon in the war against The X Factor and American Idol for the viewers’ attention: The blind auditions.
“Even people who haven’t seen The Voice know about these chairs,” Executive Producer Mark Burnett said at a recent press conference. “These chairs have become stars in their own right.”
The swiveling blind audition chairs definitely differentiate the show from the very crowded block of TV talent competitions. So much so that the series will skip the tired open casting call auditions (which really opens singers up to unnessecary ridicule) and will go directly to the best of the best in the blind auditions in the sophomore season’s first episode premiering after The Super Bowl on Feb. 5.

And it has extended the blind audition rounds with each coach selecting 12 team members instead of eight.
“The blind auditions, it’s like Christmas morning,” coach Blake Shelton says in the open of the new show trailer. “You have no idea what’s about to happen on that stage behind you.”
Shelton is joined by his fellow returning coaches, Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, and Christina Aguilera with new social media correspondent Christina Milian. Host Carson Daly also returns (with a shiny new producer credit, as well).
