When NBC’s Fashion Star moves to Sundays next season, the sartorial competition will look a bit different from its original iteration. Following reports of a new format for the series, host Elle Macpherson announced her departure from the series on Friday.
“I have been involved with Fashion Star from the beginning, and am very proud to see it come to life, not only in America but globally,” said the model in a statement. “The show is in great hands, and although I will not be hosting this season, I will still be very involved as executive producer where we will be reviewing the format for the upcoming season. Moving forward, I’ll be focusing on building the Fashion Star brand in the international market and pursuing various other producing projects close to my heart.”
That brand has already been sold to 75 countries.
Also not returning for the next run is H&M. The retailer joined Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue as buyers and distributors for the winning competitor’s weekly designs. The company also issued a statement on its departure: “H&M is continuously looking for new and unique collaborations and we were thrilled to have partnered with NBC for the first season of Fashion Star. We have decided not to participate in the second season. It was exciting to work with all of the talented people involved including the designers whose winning clothes sold out weekly. We wish Fashion Star success and will be sure to tune in for season two.”
Produced by Magical Elves, Ben Silverman‘s Electus and 5×5 Media, Fashion Star premiered in March to 4.55 million total viewers and a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49. It saw a few bumps throughout its freshman run before ending with numbers steady with the premiere’s in May.
