NBC's 'Undateable' Doubling Up With Live Telecasts Each Coast

The multicamera comedy has been a solid performer after last summer's solid sampling, averaging a 1.7 rating in the key demo, which earned it a move to midseason. Just days after the show's first live airing, NBC announced that all 13 episodes of the upcoming third season would air live. The only comedy to earn a renewal at the network, Undateable is now NBC's longest-running comedy.

Undateable is going all out to try and breath life into NBC’s Friday comedy plans.

The third-year sitcom, which announced every episode would be a live telecast (at least for the east coast) last May, is now going to tape live for both east and west coast airings — blanketing an overwhelming majority of the U.S. with real-time .

Undateable dabbled with a live episode in its second season, when it also doubled up with originals for both coasts. Previously, that move was last pulled by 30 Rock. The venerable NBC comedy aired two versions of live episodes for each coast with live episodes in 2010 and 2012.

Produced by Bill Lawrence, Undateable‘s move to Friday has not found it on the most solid ground. Though steady, week to week, Undateable‘s last episode averaged a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers in its live-plus-same day showing.

The new live strategy starts with this Friday’s episode, which also features a musical performance from the band Saint Motel.
