Things are going to get extra sexy in the upcoming season of NCIS: Los Angeles.
The cast and producers of the CBS procedural gathered for a PaleyFest Fall TV Preview panel Friday, where producer R. Scott Gemmill teased that the new season would develop Eric (Barrett Foa) and Nell’s (Renee Felice Smith) connection, with the two heading to a Renaissance Faire.
“We learn more about Nell’s social life,” Gemmill added, with Foa chiming in about the Renaissance Faire episode: “It’s a little kinky.”
Gemmill also promised that the season will focus on some serious moments for Sam (LL Cool J) and his family.
“This season is fun because every character has a really challenging episode at some point,” Gemmill revealed. “We think of this season as a lot of tentpoles, in terms of characters getting their day in the sun.”
He added that the internal affairs investigation surrounding Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) would continue to play out. He also said that the show would likely be heading back to Russia this season.
“There may be a reunion that will happen there,” he teased about the trip to Russia.
Meanwhile, series creator Shane Brennan promised a lot of Deeks and Kensi (Daniela Ruah) plot lines to come. Brennan also discussed an upcoming crossover episode involving NCIS actor Michael Weatherly (Anthony DiNozzo), calling it possibly the funniest episode of the series yet.
“They bring a lot of good energy and a great spirit to what we’re doing,” LL Cool J said of Weatherly and NCIS‘ Rocky Carroll (Leon Vance) visiting NCIS: L.A.
The cast also joked about wanting to compete on Lip Sync Battle, the Spike competition series that LL Cool J hosts. “I could do Karen Carpenter — it’s going be perfect,” Chris O’Donnell (G. Callen) said, before he and LL both erupted into an impromptu performance of Neil Diamond‘s “Sweet Caroline.”
NCIS: Los Angeles‘ seventh season premieres Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
