Orange is the New Black Still - H 2014
Courtesy of NetflixLitchfield opened early on Thursday night, as Netflix debuted the third season of Orange Is the New Black six hours before its scheduled premiere time.
The move was announced at the fan-filled OrangeCon event in New York City, at which Uzo Adubo stood up during the cast panel to ask Netflix boss Reed Hastings (over a video call) what should premiere at OrangeCon. “One episode? … Two episodes? … What if we showed them the whole season?” she asked, to a ton of cheers.
Hastings then smiled and agreed, sending fans into a loud frenzy as the anticipated dozen episodes hit the web.
The present cast members also included Taylor Schilling, Alex Prepon, Laverne Cox, Taryn Manning, Natasha Lyonne, Jackie Cruz, Danielle Brooks, Samira Riley, Lea DeLaria, Kimiko Glenn, Diane Guerrero, Selenis Levya, Vicky Jeudy, Michael Harney, Kate Mulgrew, Adrienne Moore, Emma Myles, Jessica Pimentel, Dascha Polanco, Alysia Reiner, Nick Sandow, Yael Stone, Lori Petty and Lorraine Touissant, plus newcomer Ruby Rose and author Piper Kerman.

The surprise debut was part of the first-ever fan gathering for the hit Netflix series, which turned Skylight Clarkson Square into a makeshift Litchfield prison for its biggest fans. The venue was filled with set replicas, temporary tattoo stations, mugshot photo booths and prison cafeteria food (meat loaf, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese from Pinch, served with a spork). The cast signed autographs and posed with fans, who were sporadically wearing orange accents — socks, shirts, blazers and lipstick — while a few even wore full-on orange-colored jumpsuits.

And since the show is binge-able on demand, only about half of the attendees stayed to watch the first episode in-house, while the rest grabbed their brightly-hued gift bags and headed home to binge in the comfort of their own homes.
