Netflix lost $39 million by cutting ties with Kevin Spacey.
In its fourth-quarter earnings report released on Monday, the streamer revealed that it took an “unexpected” charge “for unreleased content we’ve decided not to move forward with.”
In November, Netflix announced that it would sever ties with the actor following several allegations of sexual assault. Production on House of Cards had been suspended while the company came to a decision. The sixth and final season of the series is now expected to center around Robin Wright’s character.
At the time, the streamer also said that it would not move forward with a Gore Vidal biopic that was set to star Spacey. The film, which Spacey also produced, was in postproduction when it was scrapped.
Netflix also shelved a planned Louis C.K. stand-up special following sexual misconduct claims. Further, it cut Danny Masterson from The Ranch following multiple rape allegations, though that decision does not appear to have contributed to the charge disclosed on Monday.
