Green Eggs and Ham is getting the TV treatment. Netflix has ordered a series based on the classic Dr. Seuss book and executive produced by Ellen DeGeneres, which is set to debut in 2018, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The animated series will center on a standoffish inventor named Guy and Sam-I-Am of worldwide fame, who embark on a cross-country road trip that tests the limits of their friendship. As they learn to try new things, they discover what adventure brings. They also — spoiler alert! — get to eat that famous green treat.
Jared Stern (The Lego Movie Sequel) will adapt the best-selling book for Netflix and will exec produce with DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, Mike Karz and David Dobkin. The animated family comedy hails from A Very Good Production, A Stern Talking To and Gulfstream Television, in association with Warner Bros Animation and distributed by Warner Bros. Television.
“We think this will be a hit. Green Eggs and Ham is a perfect fit for our growing slate of amazing stories available exclusively in all Netflix territories,” said Cindy Holland, vp original content for Netflix. “You can stream it on a phone. You can stream it on your own. You can stream it on TV. You can stream it globally.”
Green Eggs and Ham joins the streaming company’s growing slate of original children’s series. Other titles include Turbo FAST, VeggieTales in the House, All Hail King Julien, The Adventures of Puss in Boots and Richie Rich.
DeGeneres is repped by ICM Partners and Morris Yorn. Stern is repped by WME, Industry Entertainment and Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment. Dr. Seuss Enterprises is repped by ICM Partners.
DeGeneres also filmed a video touting her new project. Watch her announcement below.
