Netflix has preemptively picked up Shadecraft, an upcoming comic book from Image Comics created by Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson and artist Lee Garbett.
In the development deal, Henderson will co-write the pilot with Georgia Lee, a writer-producer on sci-fi shows The Expanse and The 100. The two will also exec produce. Garbett is attached as a producer.
Shadecraft, due out March 31, centers on a 16-year-old Zadie Lu, who, on top of dealing with regular high school problems, is worried that shadows are somehow coming to life around her.
The comic is Henderson and Garbett’s follow-up comic to their Eisner Award-nominated Skyward, which is set up at Sony Pictures and that Henderson adapted.
Henderson is currently the co-showrunner of Netflix’s Lucifer, which hails from Warner Bros. TV and is about to finish production on its sixth and final season. His previous credits include work on Hulu’s Stephen King adaptation 11/22/63 and USA’s White Collar. He is managed by Stan Spry and Ryan Saul at The Cartel.
Lee is currently developing multiple projects for Netflix. In addition to working on Expanse and 100, she wrote on Carnival Row. Lee is repped by UTA.
