Netflix Renews Will Arnett’s ‘BoJack Horseman’ (Exclusive)

Just days after its debut, BoJack Horseman has been renewed by Netflix.

The animated comedy will return for another round of 12 episodes on the streaming service, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The series features a voice cast that includes Will Arnett as BoJack, a failed legendary star from a 1990s family sitcom Horsin’ Around trying to navigate his way through self-loathing, whiskey and failed relationships. Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul voices his human sidekick, Todd, with Amy Sedaris voicing BoJack’s feline agent and former love interest. Alison Brie and Paul F. Tompkins also co-star.

The series was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg and hails from Michael Eisner‘s Tornante Co. Steven A. Cohen and Noel Bright exec produce alongside Arnett and Paul. BoJack was designed by Lisa Hanawalt and animated by ShadowMachine.

BoJack‘s renewal comes as Netflix is looking to push further into comedy, as original content vp Cindy Holland noted in a recent interview with THR. The animated entry joins a roster of originals including Emmy darling Orange Is the New Black, Derek, House of Cards, Lilyhammer, Hemlock Grove and more. Netflix is also prepping live-action comedy Grace and Frankie, starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, as well as a late-night show from Chelsea Handler, among numerous other projects.

For Arnett, the second-season pickup continues the Arrested Development star’s relationship with Netflix and arrives after a strong opening weekend for his latest film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Millers star also recently launched production company Electric Avenue and inked a development deal with CBS Television Studios, where he’s adapting Johanna Stein‘s How Not to Calm a Child on a Plane: And Other Lessons in Parenting From a Highly Questionable Source.
