Nickelodeon is throwing it back to the ‘90s.
Millennials who have been missing the shows of their childhood, like Kenan & Kel, Rugrats, All That and Hey Arnold!, can get ready to see them again. Starting Oct. 5, the network is launching The Splat, a multiscreen content destination that features landmark Nickelodeon content, spanning television, social media and the web at TheSplat.com.
The Splat is intended to create a retro experience filled with the network’s classic programming stunts, such as Nick or Treat, U-Pick and Super Toy Run. The eight-hour TV block, which will air daily on TeenNick from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., will also feature the original promos and interstitials aired in the ‘90s, including the Doo-wop Dinosaurs and the Opera Lady.
“We have been listening closely to our first generation of Nick kids that are craving the great characters and shows they grew up with watching Nickelodeon in the ‘90s,” said president of Viacom Kids and Family Group Cyma Zarghami. “We designed The Splat with fans and their requests in mind, which means we’re bringing together these beloved series and a high level of digital engagement to give fans a retro media experience they can’t get anywhere else.”
Other series rotating in The Splat’s lineup include Angry Beavers, Are You Afraid of the Dark, CatDog, Clarissa Explains It All, Hey Dude, Ren & Stimpy, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Rocko’s Modern Life, Salute Your Shorts and The Wild Thornberrys.
TeenNick found success with the 2011 launch of The 90s Are All That programming block, which was sparked by the increasing demand of throwback content, thanks to the Internet and social media platforms, from the Millennials who grew up with Nickelodeon.
