Viacom’s Nickelodeon is getting a programming block in Vietnam.
Viacom International Media Networks Asia said Monday that under an expanded collaboration with Vietnamese multimedia group International Media Corp, which already is a licensee of MTV Vietnam, it will launch the first Nickelodeon-branded block in Vietnam on IMC’s digital terrestrial TV channel YouTV.
By the end of September, over 5 million Vietnamese households who get YouTV “will be able to enjoy up to four and half hours of Nickelodeon’s world-renowned content every day during the after-school hours on weekdays and the mornings during the weekends,” according to the company.
Financial terms behind the multiyear deal weren’t disclosed. The block will feature such Nickelodeon animated shows as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Paw Patrol and select live-action series including The Thundermans and Haunted Hathaways.
“Nickelodeon blocks offer broadcasters a robust and varied entertainment solution for kids 4 to 14 years, and we are delighted to partner with YouTV to bring our first Nickelodeon-branded block to Vietnam,” said VIMN Asia Pacific executive vp and managing director Mark Whitehead.
“We are excited that YouTV will be the first to exclusively carry a Nickelodeon block in Vietnam,” said IMC executive chairman Lam Chi Thien. “YouTV currently has a leading position in the Vietnamese market for families and this collaboration will provide significant added value for the kids’ programming lineup for our viewers.”
