Nickelodeon is banking on more of superhero comedy The Thundermans.
The kids cable network’s live-action, half-hour series has been renewed for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Created by Jed Spingarn (Big Time Rush), The Thundermans follows Phoebe (Kira Kosarin) and Max Thunderman (Jack Griffo), superhero fraternal twins who have opposite personalities and must navigate their way through school, friends and a superhero family while keeping their identities secret.
The Thundermans, which begins airing on Nickelodeon’s international networks in the winter of 2014, has averaged 2.1 million viewers and is currently in the middle of its 20-episode first season.
“Kids have taken to Kira and Jack’s hilarious sibling rivalry since the show’s premiere last month,” said Russell Hicks, president content development and production at Nickelodeon. “We look forward to another comedic superpowered season only the Thundermans family can deliver — complete with freezing antics, super speed flying and staying out of telekinesis trouble!”
Executive producers are Spingarn, Dave Hoge and Dan Cross. Chris Tallman, Addison Riecke, Diego Velazquez and Rosa Blasi co-star.
Earlier this year, Nickelodeon doubled the episode order on live-action comedy series Sam & Cat, which stars Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande, bringing the season-one total to 40, and also renewed animated effort Sanjay & Craig.
The Thundermans airs on Saturdays at 9 p.m. on Nickelodeon.
