Nicki Minaj discussed her song “Barbie Dreams” while visiting The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday.
“This one’s getting a lot of attention for some of the famous men you call out,” host Stephen Colbert said. Minaj states in the song why a number of guys cannot get with her. Drake, 50 Cent, Eminem, DJ Khaled, Meek Mill and Young Thug are all referenced.
“I noticed that I’m not on the list of men,” pointed out Colbert. ” It’s a pretty comprehensive list and I’m just curious that if I were to make the list, how might you inform me?”
After a brief pause, Minaj began to rap, “I might f— Stephen after the show. He gonna come back to work with a magical glow.”
Colbert quickly put his head down on his desk in embarrassment before breaking out into laughter and taking a sip from his mug. He then asked if they were still broadcasting.
“I wasn’t done, Stephen,” said Minaj. “And then the ending says, ‘But when you see us, please [bleeped] don’t stare/ Just address me as Queen Nicki Colbert.'”
The host then applauded Minaj before bowing down to her. “It’s all downhill from here,” said Colbert.
Minaj asked Colbert if he’s married. When he said he was, she responded, “Shoutout to her.”
After trying to segue into the next topic, Colbert stumbled on his words and said, “I don’t know where to go from here actually. I just don’t know what to do. I just don’t want to pass this moment.” Minaj responded, “It’s such a good moment. It feels right.”
Colbert asked if any of the men she called out have talked to her about the song. “I did get a call from one person. I’m not gonna say who,” Minaj answered. Colbert said it was Drake, and she responded, “No.”
“Actually two people on that list approached me about it,” she said. “I’m not saying. I’m not gonna snitch.”
“Only one person so far got a little irritated, but then I explained to him how much I love him and he understands now,” Minaj said. “And then one person, he was just laughing.” She continued, “He was, like, texting me. It was kind of like a mix of, like, cursing me out and laughing at it. I just kept putting, like, this crying face emoji so that it can, like, you know, make things not as bad.” She clarified the emoji in use was the one that’s laughing so hard that it’s crying. “I figured that would, like, you know, pacify him, and it did.”
Colbert then brought up that Minaj dedicated her performance of “Anaconda” at the 2016 Time 100 Gala to Joe Biden and Donald Trump. “You asked the crowd, ‘Which of those men likes the bigger butt?’ Did you ever find out?” asked Colbert.
After slowly nodding, she responded, “I’m guessing here that it would be Biden for obvious reasons.” Colbert then asked what the obvious reason is. “Anytime that a white person gets the pass that they can be like invited to the cookout, that means they probably like big butts,” Minaj explained. “He’s permanently invited to the cookout because he showed love to, you know, our love, you know, Obama. And they worked so well together and he also just seemed so genuine, and I find that genuine men like big butts.”
“I could not do what you do, but I suspect you could do what I do,” Colbert said as he introduced a new topic. The host said that he would read one of her lyrics and she would read jokes that never made it into the Late Show monologues.
Colbert began by reading off some of the lyrics to her song “LLC.” After finishing the verse, he said, “That was a rollercoaster for me.” She then suggested that he rap it to a beat as opposed to just reading the lyrics. Minaj then gave him a beat and Colbert gave the rap another try.
Minaj then read her joke. “I guess it’s no surprise that Donald Trump isn’t impressed by LeBron James, seeing as King James has three rings and Trump achieved that two divorces ago,” she read before throwing the flashcard on Colbert’s desk.
