When Nikita returns, its move to Fridays isn’t the only change viewers will see: The new dynamics between Nikita, Alex and Michael will test all involved.
Last season ended with Michael and Nikita driving off as a couple, but instead of into the sunset, it’s “a storm cloud,” Shane West told The Hollywood Reporter at the CW premiere party at the Warner Bros. lot.
Instead of Michael on one side of the battle and Nikita on the other, as most of the first season featured, the second season is about figuring out if the pair has any ounce of normalcy in their blood.
“Now that they’re together, it’s difficult to pull them apart, in a sense,” he says. “Michael’s very conservative and Nikita’s very liberal. How do these characters co-exist? How are they not going to fight?”

With the characters living in such a heightened world, West believes the change will be a successful one. “It brings a certain sense of reality to the show with the relationship,” he says. “I inherently think they are perfect for each other so hopefully they can co-exist for many more seasons.”
West revealed that there would be at least one more secret about Michael that will be uncovered in the first few episodes that will begin a three- to four-episode arc.
“The fans are definitely going to freak out about that one. It’s out of left field,” West teased. In fact, it’s one that he’s a fan of. “I like the development. I like their idea and the first episode with that arc has gone very well so hopefully it’ll continue that way,” he says.
He also mentioned that it was very likely that a member of Michael’s family would be appearing in the second season.
Nikita returns for its second season on Friday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. on the CW.
