NBC and The Office’s Greg Daniels have a dinner date.
Under his new two-year overall deal with NBC, Daniels is developing the British family comedy Friday Night Dinner for the network.
Created by Robert Popper, FND revolves around the traditional Jewish family the Goodmans, and will follow their Shabbat dinners in which twentysomething brothers Adam and Jonny visit their parents.
Mother Jackie is saucy and funny, while father Martin is socially inept and obsessed with finding Adam a girlfriend. In addition, Jackie’s mother and the Goodmans’ neighbor often stop by for Shabbat dinner.
The comedy premiered in February on Channel 4, with a second season commissioned in March. The comedy, from Big Talk Productions, airs stateside on BBC America.
The project would be Daniels’ second British adaptation. It’s unclear what role Daniels (Parks and Recreation) would have.
Universal Media Studios will produce.
