UPDATED: CBS landed on top Wednesday evening with “New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Gary Unmarried” matching season highs and winning their time period.
“Christine” (7.3 million viewers, 2.2 adults 18-49) and “Gary” (7 million, 2.5) matched their previous top number this season — despite the return this week of ABC comedies to the 8 p.m. hour. “Criminal Minds” (13.7 million 3.7) was up 9% and “CSI: NY” (13.6 million, 3.2) fell 16% from last week’s crossover episode.
Fox placed second with “SYTYCD” (5.7 million, 2.1) and “Glee” (7.4 million, 3.3) ebbing slightly. ABC was close behind with a repeat of “Modern Family” (6.1 million, 1.9) doing better than “Hank” to lead off its evening. “The Middle” (7.1 million, 2.4) sure benefited from a stronger lead in, rising 26%. An original “Modern Family” (9.2 million, 3.7) and “Cougar Town” (7.9 million, 3.2) were up 6% and 14%, respectively, from their previous season-low performances. A special, “In the Spotlight with Janet Jackson” (6.6 million, 2.3) performed solid at 10 p.m.
NBC’s “Mercy” (7.8 million, 2.0) gained this week, up 18% to its highest rating since September. For the fourth time this season, “Mercy” also won its hour in total viewers. “Law & Order: SVU” (8.4 million, 2.6) dipped a bit and “Jay Leno Show” (4.8 million, 1.4) was steady.
On The CW, the fall finale of “America’s Next Top Model” (3.7 million, 1.8) rose from last week to hit a season high in the network’s key demos.
