CBS All Access has its first cancellation.
The streaming service, which launched in 2014, has axed the scripted drama One Dollar after one season.
“While One Dollar won’t be coming back for another season, we’re incredibly proud of its artistically presented 10-episode story, which will continue to be available for streaming on the service and for future audiences to discover,” Julie McNamara, executive vp originals at CBS All Access, said Wednesday in a statement. “We thank the tremendous creative team, Craig Zobel, Matt DeRoss, Alexandre Dauman, Graham Gordy and Jason Mosberg, and the wonderful cast for their hard work and dedication to this series, as well as our viewers for following One Dollar‘s journey.”
The mystery-thriller was picked up straight to series in August 2017. The show was set in a small Rust Belt town in post-recession America, where a one-dollar bill changing hands connected a group of characters involved in a shocking multiple murder.
Jason Mosberg created the series, which starred John Carroll Lynch, Philip Ettinger and Nathaniel Martello-White. One Dollar launched Aug. 30 to lackluster reviews, with The Hollywood Reporter chief TV critic Tim Goodman declaring the series “50 cents on the dollar, at best.” The show had a 78 percent average among the nine critics who reviewed it and a 94 percent audience rating, with 40 users weighing in on Rotten Tomatoes. The Nov. 1 season finale of the drama directed by Craig Zobel now serves as its series ender.
One Dollar becomes the first CBS All access scripted series to be canceled. The SVOD service’s scripted roster includes The Good Fight, Star Trek: Discovery, Strange Angel and the upcoming The Twilight Zone, Interrogation and multiple other upcoming Trek series. Meanwhile, Kevin Williamson’s Tell Me a Story and the comedy No Activity are awaiting word on their respective futures on the platform.
