It’s a big day for Oprah Winfrey: Wednesday marks her 60th birthday.
The media mogul is keeping it low-key this year. Winfrey originally had planned to ring in another decade with what she called “the biggest blowout party I can dream of,” but she canceled the bash after the guest list grew out of control, according to various reports.

Winfrey’s best friend, Gayle King, told E! Online on Tuesday that Winfrey was “still trying to figure out what’s the best way to celebrate,” but Reuters is reporting that she now plans to have a “quiet dinner” at her home in Montecito, Calif., just outside Santa Barbara.
It’s a marked departure from her 50th celebration in 2004, which included a black-tie dinner. She also dedicated an episode of her talker, The Oprah Winfrey Show, to her birthday, with surprise guests including John Travolta, Jay Leno, Tina Turner and Stevie Wonder.
Still, Winfrey has begun celebrating her big day already. On Friday, Winfrey and several of her friends — wearing T-shirts reading “Happy Birthday Oprah” — took a class at SoulCycle in West Hollywood in honor of her 60th.

“I just had the best birthday experience ever at SoulCyle,” she shouted in a video she posted on Instagram.
Of turning 60, Winfrey told CBS This Morning, co-hosted by King, in October: “The 6-0 number, I’ve always said to people to own it. Even I, who has said to women all these years, own it, own it, own it, took a pause for that.”
