“The opening pages of Ayana’s debut took my breath away,” said the OWN CEO in an official announcement. “I can’t remember when I read anything that moved me in a quite this way, besides the work of Toni Morrison.”
Twelve Tribes is the second selection since Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 was announced in June. The talk show maven’s interview with Mathis is featured in the January issue of O, The Oprah Magazine.

Most recently, Winfrey revealed that her print publication was not as popular as it used to be and that she would cease publishing the magazine if it were not profitable. O magazine has declined 22 percent in newsstand sales since her daytime talk show ended.
Winfrey ranks No. 18 in The Hollywood Reporter‘s annual Women in Entertainment Power 100 list, released Wednesday. She was 20th last year.
