Orphan Black - H 2015
BBC AmericaOrphan Black producer Temple Street Productions is launching a new indie distribution arm.
Veteran TV distributor Jon Rutherford, most recently executive vp distribution and business development for Tricon Films & Television, will lead the new venture as president.
Canadian insurer Fairfax Financial recently acquired a 51 percent stake in Temple Street, which continues to be run by co-presidents David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg and managing director John Young.
Temple Street has since expanded in the U.S. and internationally, including inking a worldwide content deal with Netflix for the Lost & Found Music Studios series. The half-hour about talented musicians at work in a prestigious music studio was commissioned by Family Channel in Canada to debut in early 2016.
Netflix will premiere the series soon afterwards as an original kids series in its global territories outside of Canada and the U.K. Rutherford will handle additional sales of Lost & Found Music Studios outside of Netflix’s worldwide footprint. Before joining Tricon, Rutherford was head of distribution at Portfolio Entertainment and earlier head of operations at Technicolor Creative Services.
Besides BBC America and Space’s Orphan Black, which stars Emmy-nominated actress Tatiana Maslany, Temple Street produces Killjoys for Syfy and Canada’s Space and CBC’s X Company.
