Mark your calendars: Starz has set a return date for Outlander.
Days before executive producer Ron Moore‘s sweeping epic wraps up its first eight episodes, the premium cable network has announced that the series will kick off its final eight episodes of the season on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Outlander has been a success for Starz. Last week’s highly anticipated wedding episode drove 3.8 million viewers in live-plus-three numbers, a 19 percent jump from the previous week and a 38 percent increase from the series premiere. For its first airing, the wedding episode boasted a series high 1.23 million viewers (including encores, it jumped to 2.07 million).
Already renewed for a second season, Outlander — based on Diana Gabaldon‘s best-selling eight-book series — wraps its first-half run on Saturday. The episode, titled “Both Sides Now,” finds Frank (Tobias Menzies) desperately searching for his missing wife, while Claire (Caitriona Balfe) tries to come to terms with her new marriage to Jamie (Sam Heughan). Claire is faced with an emotoinal quandary as a life-altering opportunity presents itself.
For Starz, Outlander — often described as an expansive Game of Thrones-esque saga targeting females — has proven to be a valuable property with a vocal fanbase. It joins a scripted portfolio that includes dramas Da Vinci’s Demons, Black Sails, Power and the upcoming Flesh and Bone, as well as forthcoming comedy Survivor’s Remorse.
