NEW YORK — OWN, the cable network joint venture of Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications, on Thursday unveiled four new primetime series and picked up a third season of Oprah’s Master Class and 10 additional episodes of Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s.
Ahead of a Thursday afternoon upfront event for all Discovery networks, OWN also said it has picked producer Barry Poznick and comedian Kim Coles to host the new primetime game show Are You Normal, America?, which is scheduled for the summer. It is based on the Oprah Winfrey Show segment that asked the question “Am I Normal?”
The new OWN shows unveiled Thursday are Elura and Michele Take Staten Island, about two former prosecutors who tell it like it is; Iyanla, Fix My Life, which sees spiritual guru Iyanla Vanzant helping people with their lives; Married to the Army: Alaska; and Six Little McGhees, about a couple that juggles marriage, a family business and six toddlers.
“We have solid momentum and are building the network with a strong mix of programs that connect and engage with our audience,” said OWN co-president Sheri Salata. “The new series announced today are relevant shows with real stakes, real drama and a whole lot of heart.”
Said co-president Erik Logan: “Oprah’s Master Class and Sweetie Pie’s have proven to be audience favorites. We’re excited about the early success and are pleased to have more episodes coming to OWN.”
