Paramount Network has tapped Lauren Ruggiero to head its scripted programming efforts.
Ruggiero has been promoted to senior vp scripted original series at the ViacomCBS-owned cable network. She’ll oversee all scripted shows for the network, from development through production, and be charged with devising a development strategy that further embraces the Paramount brand name. She’ll continue reporting to Keith Cox, president of development and production for Paramount Network and TV Land.
“Lauren is a brilliant executive who has been instrumental in building Paramount Network as a home for powerful storytelling, exemplified by our brand-defining hit, Yellowstone,” said Cox. “Together with the series’ immensely talented creators, cast and crew, she has helped make it the biggest success on television across the past two summers and I look forward to her continued success across our growing and impressive scripted slate.”
Ruggiero joined Paramount Network in 2015 and most recently served as vp scripted original series. She has served as executive in charge of production on Yellowstone and the Emmy-nominated limited series Waco and has been involved in all scripted projects at various stages of development.
Prior to joining the network, Ruggiero worked at Elice Island Entertainment (which produced Tut for Paramount Network predecessor Spike TV), AMC and WME.
Yellowstone is among the top-rated shows on cable, but its recently wrapped second season is the only scripted series to air on Paramount in 2019 to date. American Woman lasted just one season, the ill-fated Heathers reboot was burned off in October 2018 and a couple of other series planned for Paramount, including a First Wives Club update, ended up on other ViacomCBS properties.
The network’s upcoming slate of scripted shows includes Coyote, starring Michael Chiklis and executive produced by Michelle MacLaren; M*A*S*H-esque dramedy 68 Whiskey; a prequel to the movie Sexy Beast; Darren Star’s dramedy Emily in Paris; and thriller Paradise Lost, which Paramount will share with Spectrum Originals.
