CMT is winding down the party.
The Viacom-owned cable network has opted to end Party Down South, the flagship series in its unscripted franchise, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Ranking as the country music-themed network’s highest-rated original series — and most-watched on CMT.com — the fifth and final season will return Jan. 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. To promote the conclusion of the SallyAnn Salsano-produced show, CMT will marathon all 10 season-four episodes beginning Jan. 23 at 1 p.m.
The Jersey Shore-like show has served as a cornerstone and building block for CMT’s unscripted slate. The cabler added a spinoff, Party Down South 2, which ended after two seasons, bringing the entire franchise to a close.
Exec producers include Salsano’s 495 Productions’ Joel Zimmer and Paul Storck. Jayson Dinsmore and Morgan Selzer oversee for CMT.
Since its launch, Party Down South has drawn the ire of local residents unhappy with the cast’s drunken shenanigans as well as the arrest of several castmembers.
