Two-time Golden Globe nominee Patrick Dempsey has been cast to star in new 10-part series Devils from Sky Italia and Lux Vide.
Based on the best-selling novel by Guido Maria Brera, Devils is a high-stakes financial thriller set during the European debt crisis. Nick Hurran (Sherlock, Doctor Who, Fortitude) will be the series’ showrunner and director, with Jan Michelini also working behind the camera.
Co-starring in the show is Alessandro Borghi, an Italian actor acclaimed for recent performances in Suburra, The Place and Non essere cattivo. Other castmembers announced include Laia Costa, Malachi Kirby, Paul Chowdhry, Pia Mechler, Harry Michell and Sallie Harmsen.
Devils is set in the London office of a large U.S. bank where a ruthless trader from Italy, Massimo Ruggero (Borghi), is welcomed by CEO Dominic Morgan (Dempsey). When Ruggero becomes entangled in the financial war sinking Europe, he must decide whether to ally himself with his new mentor or fight for his country.
The series is part of Sky and its Sky Italia unit’s continued investment in high-concept English-language drama after The Young Pope and the upcoming cocaine drama ZeroZeroZero.
“Once finance had to do with some rich people who had the capital to ‘play’ on the stock exchange; now finance takes hold of the lives of all of us and changes them profoundly, making most of us poorer and a few privileged ones much richer. That’s exactly what struck me in the excellent novel by Guido Maria Brera Devils,” said Luca Bernabei, CEO of Lux Vide.
“Devils will be the first series ever to reveal the secrets of the new masters of the world with compelling stories, because they are still men even if they act like gods,” he added.
The 24-week shoot will commence in September in London and Rome. Devils will be made in association with Orange Studios and internationally distributed by Sky Vision.
